Paul artspace, 5.6 acres of love…

PAST
Paul Behle lived in Berkeley, MO before settling into 14516 Sinks Rd, the location of Paul Artspace. Paul was a partner at Behle Material Company and an active member of the community. He loved the outdoors, baseball, family, friends, and ice cream. After Paul’s passing, the property became available and our Director, Michael Behle, was able to purchase his uncle’s home to realize a longtime ambition to establish an artists’ residency. He felt it only fitting to name the program in honor of Paul’s generous spirit.

Paul Artspace serves as a platform for creative exchange and impact. It is located on a beautiful and serene six acres in North St. Louis County. Since opening in July 2013, Paul Artspace has hosted more than 100 local, national, and international artists, writers, and curators in various stages of their careers. Selected applicants are provided housing and studio space for a period of 1 to 3 months. Residents enjoy a private room, private studio space, communal kitchen and bath, and access to the tool room, woodshop, library, and etching press. The facilities at Paul Artspace permit for up to 3 individuals to work and live on the property, and this scheduling occurs on a rolling basis.

PRESENT/FUTURE
Going forward Paul Artspace will continue to support artists, writers, and curators through community programs and partnerships. This collaboration and community-building align with the mission of the Paul Artspace program, which endures into the future as it moves away from its physical space to focus its resources on supporting working creatives through project-based initiatives.

Paul Artspace also partners with Sister Cities St. Louis - Stuttgart organization & the GEDOK art center in Stuttgart, Germany for an artist residency exchange program. This program is available to residents of the St. Louis Metropolitan area. The selected artist will be provided a live/work studio at the GEDOK interdisciplinary artists organization at no charge (for one month) and a $1,000 honorarium presented by St. Louis - Stuttgart Sister Cities organization. Due to Covid19, this program is temporarily paused.
